How I Started Using ChatGPT in My Business
If you told me a year ago that I’d be sitting up at 1AM, sipping herbal tea, having full-on strategic convos with an AI robot, I would’ve laughed. But here we are — 2024, and ChatGPT is literally my co-founder at this point 😂.
I started using ChatGPT properly in May. Before that, I was dabbling — asking it cute questions here and there, testing its limits. But something shifted this month. My schedule got mad hectic, client demands were rising, my own brands needed content, and I was feeling that “I need a team, but I can’t afford one yet” kind of pressure. So I leaned into AI.
And listen… it changed everything.
Suddenly, I wasn’t writing captions from scratch at midnight. I wasn’t spending hours brainstorming blog titles or rewriting bios. I had support — on-demand, instant, no-judgement support. And for someone juggling multiple businesses, motherhood, 50k debt payoff, content creation, and my own healing journey? Game. Changer.
Here’s how I started using ChatGPT in my business (and still do):
- Content Planning: I ask it for ideas based on what my audience needs. Whether it’sIG Awards scripts, blog outlines, or email subject lines — I get a brainstorm buddy who doesn’t sleep.
- Social Media Captions: When the ideas are flowing but the words aren’t, I feed it a vibe and it spits back gold (or at least a solid draft I can put my flavour on).
- Business Bios, Pitches & More: From press features to partnership proposals, it helps me polish my tone and get to the point — especially when I’m emotionally drained.
- Web Copy & Brand Voice: Even this website refresh? Yep, Chat’s been riding shotgun.
But let me be clear — AI is a tool, not a replacement. It doesn’t replace my ideas, my voice, my lived experience. It just gives me space to breathe, create faster, and work smarter.
And honestly, that’s what we as Black women in business deserve — ease where we can find it. Tech that supports us, not overwhelms us. Systems that save us time, not drain our energy.
So if you’ve been curious about AI but scared it’s “too techy,” I’m here to tell you: you’re already smart enough to use it. You don’t need a coding degree. You just need to know your brand, your audience, and what you’re trying to say.
The world’s changing. The way we work is evolving. And if you’re not using tools like ChatGPT to lighten your load, you might just be doing the hard bits… harder than you need to.
So here’s your sign:
Open a new tab. Type “chat.openai.com.” Introduce yourself. And watch the magic happen ✨
You’ve got the ideas — let AI help you bring them to life.
